The short version

Arabic Lens runs entirely inside your browser. It does not collect, transmit, sell, or store your personal information. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising.

Who we are

Arabic Lens is provided by Techlani Group, based in New Zealand. Contact: info@techlani.com.

What the extension does

Arabic Lens reads the Arabic caption text that YouTube displays on a video you are watching, converts it into Latin letters (transliteration), and shows that text above the video.

Information we collect

We collect nothing. Specifically, in the current published version:

  • No audio is captured. The published build does not activate microphone or tab-audio capture.
  • No caption or transcript data is transmitted. Caption text is read from the page, converted in your browser, displayed, and discarded.
  • No browsing data. We do not record the videos you watch, the pages you visit, your IP address, or any identifier.
  • No account. There is no sign-in, and none is required.
  • No analytics or tracking. No telemetry, crash reporting, advertising pixels, or third-party SDKs are included.

Information stored on your device

Your display preferences (transliteration style, dialect, font sizes, overlay position, contrast) are saved using Chrome's own extension storage. If you have Chrome Sync enabled, Chrome may sync these preferences across your devices through your Google account, under Google's privacy policy — we never see them. They contain no personal information.

Caption text for the session you are watching is held temporarily in your browser's memory and is cleared when you press Stop, navigate away, or close the tab.

Third parties

The published version of Arabic Lens sends no data to any third party. It does not use Supadata, speech-recognition services, translation services, or any hosted API — the build contains no active backend connection.

Arabic Lens operates on YouTube pages. Your use of YouTube remains governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy; Arabic Lens does not alter, intercept, or transmit your YouTube account data, watch history, or credentials.

Data retention and deletion

Because no data is sent to us, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. To remove everything Arabic Lens has stored on your device, remove the extension from chrome://extensions. You can clear the current session's caption history at any time using “Clear session” in the side panel.

Security

All processing happens locally in your browser. The extension contains no remotely loaded code and makes no network connections in the current published version.

Your choices

  • Use the extension only on videos you choose; it activates only when you press Start.
  • Change or reset your preferences at any time in the side panel.
  • Remove the extension at any time.

Children's privacy

Arabic Lens is a general-audience language-learning browser extension and is not directed specifically at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — or from anyone, of any age, as described above.

International users

Arabic Lens does not collect, transmit, or store personal information. Because no personal data is collected, none is transferred anywhere, internationally or otherwise.

Changes to this policy

If a future version adds features that send data off your device — for example transcript lookup, translation, or audio transcription — we will update this policy before that version is released, and describe exactly what is sent and to whom.
